On Wednesday, Rajya Sabha passed the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2021. This bill seeks to enhance the powers that rest with the L-G (Lieutenant Governor) of India. Rajya Sabha passes Bill

Rajya Sabha passes Bill

Opposition parties opposed the bill saying that the proposed legislation was unconstitutional.

Various opposition parties opposed the bill saying that the proposed legislation was unconstitutional. They demanded that a committee be formed for it to be scrutinized.
The house had to be adjourned twice following protests by the opposition.

According to Bill, the Delhi government has to necessarily obtain the opinion of the L-G before any policy decision is implemented. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been opposing the bill since the beginning and took to Twitter to convey his disapproval by posting it was a ‘sad day for the Indian democracy.

Rajya Sabha passes Bill

Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha returned the Finance Bill 2021 without making any amendments, completing the parliamentary approval for the Budget for 2021-22. This happened after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had to curtail her reply to the talks on the legislation after a verbal spat with TMC members regarding the implementation of central schemes like PM Kisan Yojana and Ayushman Bharat in West Bengal.

The Lok Sabha

The Lok Sabha passed the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions Bill,2021 and The Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Bill. The healthcare bill seeks to establish a statutory body or commission which frames policies and regulates professional conduct and qualifications for allied healthcare professionals whereas the Juvenile Justice Bill aims at strengthening the provisions that are related to the protection and adoption of children.

Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha have been adjourned till Thursday.
