On Saturday Shashi Tharoor Congress MP took to social media platform site Twitter to admit that he had made a slip-up while commenting on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comments on Bangladesh. Shashi Tharoor
Tharoor had tweeted yesterday how PM Modi was “giving Bangladesh a taste of Indian fake news”
After that Tharoor tweeted that his response to PM Modi’s views on the Bangladesh war was supported by some hasty reading of newspaper headlines and thus erroneous.
The tweet by Tharoor came a day after the Congress leader on Twitter indicated that PM Modi had not acknowledged former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s contribution to assist in liberating Bangladesh in 1971.
Tharoor wrote, “Don’t mind admitting when I’m wrong. Yesterday, on the premise of headlines &tweets, I tweeted “everyone knows who liberated Bangladesh,” implying that PM Modi had conferred with acknowledging Gandhi. It seems he did”
The PM, during his speech in Dhaka on Bangladesh’s 50th anniversary, had stated, “I was 20-22 years old once I and together with my friends, did Satyagrah for the liberty of Bangladesh. I had also been arrested for the same”
PM Modi Addressing Bangladesh’s 50th Independence anniversary speech at the National Parade Square, Modi recalled the role played by the Indian Army within the freedom war and said the blood of those who fought for his or their liberation and also the blood of Indian soldiers are flowing together and this blood will form such a relationship which will not break down under any kind of pressure.
Modi had said both India and Bangladesh have the ability of democracy and vision for the longer term and it’s necessary for the 2 countries to progress together. “That is why Indian and Bangladesh governments are making meaningful efforts during this direction”
Bangladesh became independent from Pakistan after an India-Pakistan war in 1971. The war in 1971 broke after the sudden crackdown at nighttime passed on 25th March 1971, in the erstwhile People’s Republic of Bangladesh by the Pakistani soldiers and ended on December 16. Shashi Tharoor
